I Need Help
Why Call A Helpline?

I Need Help is here to listen, perhaps when all other routes, such as tutors, fellow students, parents, or friends, have been tried. Or if you want to speak to someone in total privacy and not involve tutors or parents or friends – we might be the ideal alternative.

We are here to offer a supportive caring ear, where the act of listening will hopefully give you clarity or reassurance, and prevent a stressful situation turning into a crisis.

What we do is really simple: our volunteers are here to listen to you and support you. If appropriate, we might point you in the direction of someone who can give you more specialised help.

Who Would Call A Helpline?

Pretty much anyone. Our callers often just need someone to talk to, with someone who won’t judge them or criticise them. The beauty is – it’s free, in complete confidence, and you can remain totally anonymous.

70% of all callers just like to talk, get issues ‘off their chest’ and use the time to explore their problems, talking about their fears or concerns.

What's The Point!?

Here’s why; there’s a very good chance you’ll feel better after talking to us. Though we are not agony aunts or an ‘advice line’, most of our callers tells us they feel more optimistic, calm, and ‘empowered’ as a result of just talking.

It’s completely anonymous, but if you come from a particular college or county it’s useful for our records to know where you come from – that’s all. You don’t even have to give us your name.

So pick up the phone, let off steam! Get it off your chest!
